What I don't understand is why no Democrats are talking about the fact that the president's top advisor seems to have a severe ketamine addiction.

The void is so obvious that I wonder if top Democrats are even aware of this issue. Do Durbin, Schumer, Jeffries, etc. even know that Elon Musk is high off his ass all the time? Do they even know what his drug of choice is? This is basic civic knowledge and they seem to be totally out to lunch. It's crazy.

For the record, I think your listeners would be well served by discussions around tariff policy in the late 19th-early 20th century! There’s lots of politics in that era that are quite relevant to what’s playing out right now

The best response to the pseudo-SOTU I've heard was Justin Trudeau which wasn't even a pseudo-SOTU response. The dems need to learn from his rhetoric and just say plainly that the [insert policies here] which Trump/Musk are pursuing and the Rs are enthusiastically endorsing (USA! USA! USA!) are going to hurt ordinary Americans. ("Your government has done this to you.") Slotkin's response left me cold.

I would like to hear you two argue about the thing you set aside this episode: is it worthwhile for democratic leaders to do more performative resistance? Stuff like Al Green getting kicked out, and the more fiery language coming from Jasmine Crockett, etc.

Seems to me it could be if it persuades swing voters to put more pressure on their republican leaders to defy Trump

The most memorable SOTU rebuttal for me is Christine Todd Whitman doing one in front of the NJ House in response to Clinton. Clinton gave a typically long speech, so she started hers by saying "I promise you that I will NOT need equal time."

The key was that she had an audience. I don't know why more rebuttals haven't tried to do that.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be on YouTube, but here is an interview with her looking back on it.
