I'm skeptical that the slavery "gaffe" matters much at all, indeed it strikes me as a great example of the sort of thing progressive politicos love to harp about that cross pressured voters (think a white woman in Delta Township MI who voted Obama, Trump, Biden) don't care about at all. Indeed it might even hurt with those sort of voters "Biden just whines about some history thing I don't even remember from high school, Haley gets it, she promised to make gas 1.99 again!" etc
As for Dems voting for Haley I really doubt she can win, but it is a great test of the revealed preferences of anti-Trump types. That is if you really think Trump is a fascist who's going to end democracy then casting a ballot for Haley is a pretty small ask. The fact that so few people are willing to do it strikes me as evidence that a lot of liberal/progressives don't actually think he's nearly the menace they claim him to be. Same with opposition to Biden changing policies on things like the border or being quite about guns to try to win votes from people on the fence: do you really care about beating Trump or is sticking to your guns on various policy positions more important to you?
"And they serve as a reminder that if she somehow wins the primary, Democrats will still have plenty to work with: They’d be able to attack her for pandering to Lost Cause mythologists, and for being against Trump, before she was for him, before she was against him again, before she was for him again."
Brian, if you really think these would be the themes of a winning Democratic general election campaign, I'm afraid you've picked the wrong profession.
This is such weak, thin gruel.
She gave a dumb answer on the Civil War because she was trying to win a Republican primary? Ok, bad. But she took down the confederate flag in *South Carolina.* She wins that point.
She flipped and flopped on supporting Trump? You mean, she's ambitious and a typical politician? Sounds like a sure path to a Biden landslide.
Nope, plenty to go after her on. Just not these timewasters.
Closed primaries too! I registered as a Republican last year in CT just on the off chance I could help strategically vote against Trump.
It’s a fun way to troll my friends... “Actually guys, I’m a registered Republican, and YOU SHOULD BE TOO!” is a hilarious record-scratcher inside the Woke Bubble.
"The Republican Party is like a failed state, and Trump is its warlord."
Brian, will there be any way to see how many voters registered as independents chose to vote for Haley in the Republican primary rather than participate in the Democratic primary to write in Biden or to vote as a protest against Biden? And if there is, would it reveal much about how such voters might behave in November or would it be more of a one-off gesture?

I plan to do this in SC.
@59:00 that observation about Jamie Dimon is so good it deserves its own post.
