Loved the discussion, especially about the division on the left. My only note is that there were a couple of honest to god jump scares from jumps in volume haha
Yes, what are we going to do about Matt's voice when he starts off? I am jumping and startled. Once he gets going, it's OK but that initial interjection is quite alarming.
Your contrast between what Republicans do when complaining about things when there is a Republican President and what Democrats do when complaining about things when there is a Democratic President, I felt missed something.
Republicans complain about either an amorphous "they" or a specific enemy (Pelosi, Schumer, the Supreme Court, the media, academia). They never complain that their President isn't delivering. No-one ever said "Trump hasn't got Mexico to pay for the Wall. Why hasn't he invaded Mexico? He's a wimp that won't stand up to the Mexicans". Instead, they attacked the Democrats for stopping him from doing it.
Much of the cultural stuff they complain about, they attack the media. Even when Biden was President, they went for Anheuser-Busch over Bud Light advertising to trans people, not for Biden for not banning it.
Obviously, the left has more things it wants to be done through governmental rather than corporate or cultural means, but even so, if the left decided to pretend Biden agreed with them and attacked Republicans for not letting him do the things they wanted him to do (which they would express as "stopping him from doing what he wants") then they could maintain more of the negative framing, but instead of "Biden isn't doing enough about climate change", it could be "Biden is being stopped from doing enough". Can anyone imagine "we'd have Medicare for All now if it wasn't for all those Republican Senators blocking it: we need to win races like the ones that Beto and Jamie Harrison lost"? Exactly, but it's certainly truer than the "didn't even try" messaging we get.
Overall I enjoyed the discussion, but here is some constructive criticism that would improve the podcast.
1. I suggest having some more structure to the podcast. An introduction introducing the topics you're going to discuss as well as introducing your guest, and then better transitions between sections.
2. Add time break links in the description, so that we can jump to each section.
3. MY dominated the conversation a bit. I always enjoy his perspective (even when I disagree), but I think he should give Brian more time and opportunity to speak and to direct the conversation so it feels a bit more balanced and I can understand Brian's perspective. Same with the guest.
Could Matt and Will both be right? Could it be that these changes in attitudes are both due to the increased power in leftists' hands AND the changes in media? Could it be that the left can sell a catastrophizing story more effectively on Twitter because their narrative holds grains of truth? We're not, after all, any close to a Scandinavian "paradise" (god, help us). Meanwhile, the most catastrophic narratives on the right - QAnon stuff, for instance - sound like conspiracy theories, so they're harder to sell in the mainstream media once they sprout from social media.
The premise is as absurd as the suggested insurrection. There were FBI embeds and provaxateurs. Who were they? How many? and Why?The rioters were curiously let in to the building and them escorted into Grand Hall whereupon they had a group Prayer. Trump called to a peaceful protest. A false slag event? I don't know but…
Really enjoying the podcast but you guys gotta do something to normalize the volume. Tried to listen in my car and constantly had to keep turning it up to hear and then getting my ears blown up by random outbursts and turning it back down.
Yglesias is so pendantic and contradictory it’s insufferable to listen too.
He starts by saying “if I like a message i have to check myself cause I am elite” to refute Jan 6 messaging, but then without shame says “these messages are what i think are better and resonate with him therefore they should be the primary message of the Dems.
He starts to twitch when Brian speaks and the can’t help himself and breaks in with these long, extremely slowly spoken (bc the ideas are so mega they have to be spoken slowly so the dumbs can understand) stemwindrrs that he could have said in a sentence.
Musk and Twitter are constantly, constantly, constantly part of the discourse. It is NOT TRUE that no one wants to talk about this!
But eminent domaining Twitter is a good start. We should really outlaw the Internet. I'll vote for the first guy who wants to summarily draw and quarter anyone who networks two computers together.
I’m running for U.S. Senate in California specifically because of Jan 6. I swore an oath of office to be on the March 5 ballot and having to raise a complaint against California Secretary of State Weber for not enforcing the oath of office rule against former President Trump. He can suspend the constitution after he gets into office but doesn’t qualify for the ballot unless he supports and defends the Constitution.

They badly need an audio engineer.

Would you consider adding section time break links to the episode summary on Spotify -- like Bill Simmons does?

4. Work on sound.
Is there any way or any platform where I can turn the speed up in this podcast? (Not a dig at the podcast I just prefer 1.5x or 2x in general)?
click the three dots in the bottom right corner and it comes up
OK CORNY K I SEE YOU LETS GOOOO!!!
I use Pocket Cast to aggregate my podcasts and it works great for this.
+1 for Pocket Casts

it's nice to see will and matt getting along given their history :)

It's a Matt thing and it would be good if they could do something about it.

Dems in Disarray!!!!
gotta love Matt's four copies of One Billion Americans always in the background of these...subliminal marketing lol
Should we demand Kamala not certify the election if Trump wins? (The answer is yes!)
Ah, the only 2 people who watched that speech are on this podcast!
